The SafeNav Project is developing a state-of-the-art Maritime technology to improve real-time decision making, aid with collision avoidance, and overall enhance safer navigation while moving towards autonomous and remote operation. Funded by the European Commission (EC), the SafeNav Project will provide navigators with an easy-to-use decision support system, multi-sensor fusion, marine mammal & floating container detection and tracking, and more – all on a single, easy-to-use graphical user-interface (GUI).

GMS Ltd. provides the marine advisors and end users for the development and validation of the Ladar™ Sensor Suite, a state-of-the-art collision avoidance and automatic object detection system designed for the maritime sector. In the long-term, the vision for the Ladar™ Sensor Suite is that it will become one of the key systems for use with remote-controlled vessels and autonomous vessels/navigation at sea. GMS is fully dedicated to take this vision to the next level and make Ladar™ Sensor Suite a necessity for the navigation bridges/control stations of the future.

GMS Ltd. has been involved for several years providing marine and end user advisory during VoyOpt’s , a Voyage Optimization and Weather Routing system, system development phase. Development is currently on-going, and we are both validating the service and advising from the point of view of a maritime end user.

GMS Ltd. was the official marine advisor for the C3S Global Shipping Project. We set the user requirements and followed the development on the 2-year service contract with the Copernicus/Climate Data Store project. The project’s aim was to adapt the shipping industry for climate change.

GMS Ltd. has been the marine/end user advisor and project partner for this system from the project’s inception. SOS is an automatic detection system for man overboard incidents. It uses sensor technologies such as Ladar, Cameras and ML/AI run “object” detection. The SOS technology provides a complete system to detect instantly any person falling overboard from a ship or any other maritime platform/installation. It sends an instant notification to the bridge team of the vessel/offshore installation.

GMS Ltd. arranges for all the marine advisory for user requirements, as well as the testing and validation procedures for a Plastic Detection System. Ladar Limited and Hjelmstad AS are both proud of being a part of the Plastic Detect project – which detects plastic as well as litter from the ocean and then communicates this data to relevant third parties for clean-up and plastic recovery work.

GMS Ltd. played a part in the development of a training and certification program together with Offshore Certification. The training program is designed for Navigators/Masters, and the topics involve training about Earth Observation & Metocean Data, Remote Sensing Devices, and how to apply this during Navigation to reduce fuel consumption and GHG emission for your vessel. We are currently working on several technologies with a special focus on technology that prepares the maritime sector for the autonomous navigation and remote operated vessels.
